The challenge

Datacenters face several challenges. Because of the increasing prices of energy the supply of power to hosting companies and cooling the ambient temperature becomes a huge cost factor. Hosting companies react on this by hiring/buying “cheap power” in an extra rack instead of placing more energy consuming servers in the existing rack against huge energy costs. As a result of this datacenters are confronted with a growing demand for racks and or space. Efficient use of available space becomes a necessity. The alternative is expanding by building a new datacenter.

 

To reduce costs per rack hosting companies want to increase the density in their rack.
